Adam J. Ely

Having been born and raised in Johnson City, TN, Adam Ely was always fascinated by visual effects and passionate for visual storytelling. Combining his loves for both art and science, Adam received his Bachelors from ETSU in computer graphics and engineering technologies, then later completed his Masters at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In 2006, Adam started working professionally as a Concept Artist and Digital Matte Painter, aiding in the creation of virtual environments for both live-action and animated features. Upon receiving an opportunity to live and work abroad, Adam moved to New Zealand for 3 years to work on AVATAR, fulfilling a lifelong dream to work for one of his favorite directors, James Cameron. Following that adventure, Adam worked 5 years at DreamWorks Animation in Los Angeles. One of the highlights of that experience was an opportunity he had in leading a team of talented artists in creating the richly detailed environments in KUNG FU PANDA 3. Adam is now currently working for Lucasfilm's Industrial Light and Magic, contributing to digital environments for feature films and theme park rides. He’s always eager to learn more and continually strive to better himself as an artist. Adam love sharing his knowledge and experience with students and looks forward to becoming a teacher in the future.
